Dear Friends,

After the straight-laced energy of Saturn and the erratic energy of Uranus, you’re going to find Neptune to be a walk in the park. For the most part Neptune is light, dreamy and gentle. The only problem with this energy is that it can be too dream-like and disassociative. The balance to remember when working with Neptune is that there has to be some reality to ground you to the present, or you’ll spiritually float off.

Some people consider Neptune to be a higher vibrational energy of Venus, and in some ways I understand this line of thinking. Like Venus, Neptune is associated with creativity, friendship and general “good” feelings. But just like Uranus is a transpersonal planet, Neptune has the same status. Neptune energy is about the larger impact of these feelings. It looks at things from a cultural perspective instead of just a personal one. It’s a higher vibration in the sense that it has a wider scope of view of these aspects of life. The word higher doesn’t imply that it’s better or more powerful. It just means that it is larger than your personal focus.

In mythology, Neptune is the God of the sea and also goes by the more familiar name of Poseidon. Though Neptune is a God, astrologically and magickally he possess a lot of typically feminine powers. Neptune energy is mutable and changeable, like the tides of the ocean and like a woman’s monthly cycle. Overall, Neptune energy is about change and dissolving past normal constraints and exploring the outer reaches of human experience. While Uranian energy is rebellious, Neptune’s path toward the same end is gentle and subtle.

When you use Neptune in your magickal practice, you are tapping into the great forces of creativity, spirituality and acceptance. Neptune is the ruler of Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac. It co-rules the sign with Jupiter. If you’ll remember from the post on Jupiter, that planet has connection with religious insight and philosophy. Neptune’s approach to this subjects is a little different. Rather than working within existing areas, Neptune seeks to create new modes of creativity, communication and fellowship.

Neptune is a spiritually power planet, and there are a lot of different ways you could go in your use of this energy in your magick. One of the most common ways of using Neptunian energy is to focus on the creative aspects of the planet. The following spell will give you creative inspiration when you need it.

This ritual will help you call upon the energy of Neptune to awaken the creative fires within yourself. Even if you aren’t an artist, poet, writer or other “typical” creative person, there is a part of everyone’s life that is creative. Whether it’s taking care of your home, thinking outside of the box at work or gardening on the weekends, creativity is part of everyone’s life. This spell will help you feel inspired no matter what it is that you do.

Prepare for this ritual by placing as many white candles as you need to form a circle on your altar. In the middle of your circle, you’ll place a glass dish filled with ice (or snow if it’s handy). Begin your ritual as you normally would. You may want to add some reminder of Neptune’s energy on your altar. You can add a piece of jade or amethyst to your altar to represent the energy of Neptune. You can also include clove, sage or lilac as herbs in the ritual for Neptune.

Although Neptune doesn’t have a specific day tied to it, you should time this ritual for a full moon or while the moon is waxing (gaining strength). Since creativity is all about sending your energy outward, you want to do this ritual while the lunar energy is building and growing.

Light the candles in a counter clockwise motion, and then picture inspiration flowing from the candles into the water or ice. This water molecules are collecting the inspiration from the candles and building up the energy of creativity. As you visualize this, repeat the following words:

Nut to tree, seed to flower
Nurture my creative power
Growing as it fills this dish
Inspiration is my wish

Meditate on the flame of the candles, and let them burn as long as you can (safely, of course!) Once you’re done reflecting on the Neptune’s energy, snuff out the candles. The bowl of water is filled with this special energy, and you can take it into yourself by drinking the water.

As you work with the energy of Neptune in other ways in your magickal practice, you’ll find that it’s a nice balance to the outwardly focused Mars and the strict Saturn. Neptune asks us to look at things creatively, spiritually and with an eye toward illusion.

Brightest Blessings,

Dear Friends,

Uranus is considered a “trans personal” planet. In astrology, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are all in signs for long periods of time so a whole generation of people will have, for example, Uranus in Gemini. It’s symbolic of a social collective of forces. It’s beyond personal, and you’ll find when you work with the energy of these planets in your magickal workings that it is powerful and profound.

Uranus is the modern ruler of Aquarius. In ancient times, before Uranus was discovered, Saturn ruled Aquarius as well. It seems odd to have Saturn and Uranus, two vastly different planets, rule the same sign. It’s part of what makes Aquarians such complex and conflicted people. But I digress.

To sum up Uranus’ energy, it’s helpful to look to the time that it was discovered in the sky – the year 1781. If you were to sum up the state of the world during that period of time into one world it would be revolution. The American revolution was still taking place, the French were in the midst of their own revolution and as the world looked to the year 1800, the Industrial revolution was starting to take hold and change the way the human race worked and lived. By the time the 19th century rolled around, the chaos of the previous years had resulted in an entirely new political, sociologic and economic landscape.

Uranus was named for the Greek god who hid his children deep within the earth and was later castrated by his son Cronos (Saturn). However, myself and many others feel like Uranus may have been “misnamed.” To me, Uranian energy resonates more clearly with the story of Prometheus. After Saturn became king, Prometheus, a titan, stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humans. This trickster’s theft is representative of the Uranian energy of innovation, humanitarianism and rebellion.

To top it off, the orbit of the planet is eccentric and uneven. Like Saturn, it has a ring of iced meteorites encircling it. But unlike Saturn, it’s ring is changeable and erratic. If you choose to work with this energy, expect the unexpected! Your life will be greatly changed. It won’t always be easy but it will definitely be worth it.

You should work with Uranus when you feel like your life needs some shaking up. Uranian energy is excellent when you need to get yourself out of a rut and into something. Just don’t expect your change to be subtle or slide under the radar. Uranus is the teenager who dies their hair purple, not the 30 year old who plans and then gets a tattoo in a hidden place.

So now that you know a bit about Uranus, it’s time to do some spellwork with the energy. Uranian energy is quick and somewhat esoteric. That’s why it’s perfect to call in Uranus when doing spellwork related to psychic energies. As I’ve said before, even if you don’t consider yourself psychic you should take some time to develop your intuitive abilities. Everyone walking this path needs to be in tune with the subtle whispers of the God and Goddess.

There isn’t a day that is dedicated to Uranus, like the other planets. But if you want to give this spell some extra “oophm” do it on a day where the Moon is in Aquarius. Find an ephemeris online and find the next date where the Moon will be in Aquarius. Since the Moon is also associated with psychic powers, doing this spell on a day when the Moon is Uranian will help you draw in more of that particular energy. The moon goes through a particular sign in about three days, so it shouldn’t take more than a month of waiting to do this on the right day.

In this ritual you’ll be creating a psychic herb jar that will help you capture those intuitive flashes that come your way with Uranian energy. You’ll need a small and the following herbs:

Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Ginger
Fennel Seeds
Garlic
Sage
Cloves

These herbs are related to Uranus and psychic abilities. Add the different spices together in a jar and shake them gently so they mix together. Once you’ve prepared the jar, you’ll need to consecrate it for psychic purposes. Take a piece of paper and inscribe the symbol for Uranus (it kind of looks like the Enterprise from Star Trek!). Make sure the paper is small so you can bury it deep within the jar.

Start your ritual as you normally would. You’ll need a white candle and a turquoise candle for the ritual, as well as your jar. Light the candles and then focus your energy on the jar. Once you feel like you’ve collected enough energy into your body, hold the jar and let your energy flow into the jar. Then pass the jar through the flame of the turquoise and the white candles. As you do this, say the following:

Open the door to my inner life,
Reveal the hidden messages to me.
Open the door to my inner life,
That my way may be made free.
Send me the light from Uranus free
Make the path bright and clear.
Give me signs, show it to me.

When you need intuitive inspiration and want to receive Uranus’s energy, hold the jar and inhale deeply. The scent of the herbs will

Brightest Blessings,

Dear Friends,

You may have notice that the titles of these planetary topics has changed as we go further out in the solar system. The first few planetary bodies are there to honored, the next few are to be drawn upon for energy and the last section has trans formative effects that have to be dealt with. After the expansive and positive energy of Jupiter, Saturn seems like a bit of a downer. This “stick in the mud” of a planet actually has some very good qualities about it, and you shouldn’t think of it as a foe. Saturn rewards you well if you obey its rules. It’s just in the obeying that people sometimes get stuck.

In ancient astrology, Saturn was considered to be the “bad” planet. During the medieval times, it was considered to be the planet of death. But this was only because of the cycle of Saturn coinciding with the average lifespan. Back then, people rarely lived beyond the age of 30 and Saturn transits through all of the zodiac signs in about 29 and a half years. So approximately 30 years after you are born, Saturn reaches the point it was at when you were born. This phenomenon, known as the Saturn return, used to a be a signal for death. Now, however, it’s seen as a chance to eliminate what isn’t working for you and make you a more efficient person.

Saturn is often considered to be the task master of the skies, but it’s really just concerned with order and efficiency. During the Saturn return, and anytime that you’re feeling the stress of Saturn on your astrological chart, you may feel like things aren’t the way they should be, and they need to get right NOW! This pressure can be intense, but it’s necessary for growth. Saturn is like the GPS on your car telling you “You aren’t going the way you should..turn right NOW!”

Seeing Saturn in this light can help you understand it’s energy. It’s not there to make life hard, it’s just there to make life right through discipline. Think about the rings of Saturn for a moment. They are made of chunks of ice that are so perfectly in orbit around the planet that they made identifiable rings. Talk about ordered! This is a perfect example of Saturn’s energy – natural elements ordered into perfect balance.

Saturn has a lot of spiritual weight. Like it’s neighbor Jupiter, it is significant in the solar system. Being the second largest planet (only Jupiter is bigger), it has a large impact on your life. It is related to karma, as well as the Moon.

In your magickal practice, you can look to the energy of Saturn whenever you need to manifest something. Saturn’s day (Saturday) is typically a day of getting things done. How many times have you put off things for Saturday when you couldn’t do them during the week. It’s become the day of “catch up” and the manifestation of what you’d planned earlier in the week.

You can use Saturn in ritual in a variety of ways. You can ask that it let you see your karmic lessons more clearly. You can ask help in seeing your direct path to what you want through revealing the steps that you need to take there. You can also use it to bind, restrict or otherwise impede things in your life. It’s especially helpful for any spellwork that deals with eliminating a bad habit.

Saturn is at it’s most powerful during mid December to mid February. It rules the astrological sign of Capricorn, and it co-rules Aquarius with Uranus. If you’re doing a Saturn based ritual during another part of the year, try to complete your ritual on a Saturday.

If you need guidance from the energy of Saturn, try this ritual. You’ll need some myrrh oil and your regular ritual items. Make sure to also include a piece of paper and writing instrument of your choice on your altar. Ground, center and cast your circle. Then you’ll anoint yourself with the oil. On the piece of paper, write the symbol for Saturn which you can look up anywhere online. It looks similar to a lowercase t and h combined into a symbol. After you draw the symbol, take a few deep breaths and then ask outloud

Saturn, God of old
Your secrets I wish to be told
Reveal my path and your lessons
With clarity, understanding and blessings

Burn the paper over your altar candle, or in your cauldron.

Your answer might not be apparent right away, but you should look for it in your day to day life. Your friend or family member may tell you something that rings true, or you may see or read something that strikes you as somehow familiar. Listen to your intuition and you’ll know when Saturn is communicating with you.

Brightest Blessings,

Dear Friends,

Jupiter has incredibly expansive and beneficial energy that many people are drawn to, and with good reason. Among other things, Jupiter is the planet of luck and prosperity. It’s as big and expansive as it’s actual physical size. When you think Jupiter, think big and bold! It’s no wonder that working with Jupiter is a popular topic.

Luck and prosperity are things that we all want, so it’s a good idea to learn a little bit about Jupiter and how it’s energy works. Personally, I’ve found this to be one of the most fascinating planets not just for it’s magickal energy but for it’s unique status in the solar system. Few people know this, but Jupiter is considered to be a sun that never ignited. It has sixteen minor planets or “moons” in its orbit, and had it reached it’s full potential we’ve have a binary solar system instead of just one sun. Some astronomers believe that Jupiter may have at one point been an active sun, and when our current sun came into power it slowly lost its own. This places the Sun and Jupiter in an interesting mytholigical stance. Much like the death and rebirth of the Sun that we experience each year with the solar calendar, Jupiter is the “older” king who is bowing in reverence to the new king, the Sun.

So what can we learn from the astronomy of Jupiter? It is expansive. It represents latent power. It generates heat and is expansive. It’s energy is powerful, spiritual and large. When people speak of Jupiter being expansive, it isn’t just expansive in money, career or personal power. It can also expand consciousness. The astrological sign associated with Jupiter, Sagittarius, represents this duality perfectly. Sagittarius is the hunter and the philosopher. Sagittarian energy, and therefore Jupiter energy, is equally physical and spiritual.

It makes sense to get in touch with the energy of this planet that could have been our Sun. In addition, Jupiter is the Roman name for Zeus, the ruler of all of the Gods. Manifesting and allowing Jupiterian energy is honoring the God himself.

To get in touch with Jupiter, you need to expand your awareness of what is around you. For this reason, it makes perfect sense to complete a meditation based on Jupiter’s energy. To complete this meditation, make sure to have one of the following crystals associated with the planet:

Amethyst, Lapis Lazuli, Labradorite, Sapphire,Turquoise

You’ll also need four purple candles and some sage. This meditation is especially powerful during the time that the Sun is in the sign of Sagittarius (mid November to mid December), but it can be done any Thursday of the year. Make sure to create a space where you can meditate quietly.

Once you’ve grounded, centered and cast your circle, go ahead and light your four purple candles. Relax and take in some deep breaths of the sage. Before you begin the meditation, wave the crystal through the smoke in order to purify it. Then hold it between your hands and feel your energy flowing into the crystal. Picture yourself vibrating in harmony with the crystal, and see your heartbeat pulsing in it. As you are pulsing and joining with the crystal, feel yourself expanding beyond your physical body and filling the entire room. When you’ve filled the room, you continue to expand beyond your home out into the neighborhood, then the entire city, then the state. You keep expanding further and further until you are beyond the Earth. Feel yourself connecting with the entirety of the universe. Expand to the point where you feel yourself join with the divine and realize that all things are one.

When you’ve made this realization, start stepping back into yourself and thanking everyone and everything that you encountered along the way. Once you’re back into your own body, make sure to ground yourself but keep the new awareness of your place in the universe fresh in your mind. Everytime you look at the crystal, you can repeat those feelings of expansion and power.

You didn’t think I’d create a message on Jupiter without including a luck spell, did you? Well, you’re in luck (pardon the pun) because here’s a short sweet spell that will bring more Jupiter energy and luck into your life.

This spell will help you attract luck into your life. You’ll need a drawstring bag, two lode stones, two green candles and some incense. Prepare your ritual as you normally would. Once you’re ready, place the lode stones into the bag and then tie the strings threes times. Light the two green candles and then say the following words:

Luck shall come to me by the powers of three, by my will so shall it be!

At this point, you need to pass the bag through the incense and just above the candles. Then say

The bag is sealed and this charm is made.

Luckily yours,

Rose Ariadne

Dear Friends,

Mars is a tough planet to get along with sometimes. It (and the Roman God it is named after) have typically been associated with war, anger and strife. However, it’s much more than that. Just as people have different sides to them, so does Mars. It’s the opposite of Venus, so the lovey-dovey peaceful energy is out the window when it comes to Mars. Mars is much more aggressive, but not necessarily destructive. Think of it as more about willpower than war, and you’ll start to see how working with Mars can be effective in your magickal practice and your life.

Mars wants to make things happen so it’s very helpful when you need a spell with a lot of energy and “tooth” to it. Will energy is important in magick because it helps create the results that you want. When you practice a ritual or a spell, you’re putting your will power out there to change and bend the energy that exists in the universe. In order for magick to take place, you have to use your willpower.

It’s easy to see why Mars is associated with anger. Anger is will power that has been amplified to a high degree. It’s will power and frustration balled up into one. However, if you work at using Mars in a positive way you’ll begin to see that Mars has power that leads to victory.

Any ritual can be connected to Mars by adding some special elements to give it extra power. Mars has many herbs that are associated with it but some of the most common are allspice, blackberry, cayenne, dragon’s blood, garlic, hemlock, mandrake, rue, blessed thistle and wormwood. Adding these herbs in with your other ritual items will add the will power energy of mars. You can also connect with Mars by doing your ritual on Tuesday. Adding the color red to your ritual will do the same thing.

I’ll include a spell dealing directly with asserting yourself in a very Mars like fashion at the end of this post, but first I’d like to share with you a ritual that will help you connect with Mars energy. For this ritual you’ll need a red candle and a pin. Annoint the candle with some all purpose spell oil, or some garlic (also associated with Mars). On the candle, with the pin, trace the symbol for Mars. This symbol is a circle with an arrow pointing upward and to the right. It is the symbol for male in modern times.

Light a Mars related incense, like Dragon’s Blood, and then focus your energy on the candle. As you focus, ask the God Mars to give you a vision of how you should be using your willpower. Close your eyes and then allow your mind to receive whatever images are there. As you sit in silence, let your inner will be guided by the images that you see. The interpretation of those images is entirely up to you. If you and I saw the same thing, we’d interpret it differently because of our different life paths and destinies.

The following spell can be used to increase your confidence and your will power. It’s helpful to do this spell during the full moon, so you can draw on the energy of the moon. For this spell, you’ll also need to know the astrological sign that Mars is in at this point. You can look up that information by finding an ephemeris online. Take note of the sign that Mars is in, and make sure to find the symbol for the sign. You’ll need that symbol to inscribe in your candle.

You’ll need a red candle dressed with Dragon’s Blood oil, or another appropriate Mars related oil. You’ll also need a shell. The color or type of shell doesn’t matter but it should be one that appeals to you in some way.

After grounding and centering like you normally would, spend a few minutes concentrating on the situation that you would like to use your newfound confidence and will power in. Picture yourself standing up to someone you’d previously been afraid of, or asking your boss for a raise with confidence. Whatever situation speaks to you, clearly picture it in your mind and hold the feeling of confidence in your heart.

Light the red candle, and hold it in your right hand. Repeat the following words:

Please give me the power to be confident.
Allow me to be the best that I can be.

Pass the shell through the flame and say the following:

May this by my lucky charm
To remind me to be powerful, and do others no harm

Kiss the shell and then pass it through the flame, and say the following:

May the power of Mars, and the energy of (the astrological sign)
Grant me what I need
I leave this space a confident person, free to use my will as I see fit.

Brightest Blessings,

Rose Ariadne
