Rose Ariadne's Chitchcraft Blog

Dear Friends,

It’s often said that “Wherever you may be it is your friends who make your world.” In this spirit I’d like to share some spells with you that are geared toward making and keeping friends. The friendships that I’ve had in my lifetime have helped sustain me through tough times and my friends have been there to help me enjoy the good times. If you feel the same way about friendship that I do, you’ll enjoy these spells.

This first spell is to bring new friends into your life. You’ll need a pink candle, some friendship oil and two silk ribbons (one pink, one white). You should do this ritual during the waxing moon or the full moon. Cast the circle and start the ritual as you normally would. Then anoint the pink candle with friendship oil. As you do this, you want to visualize the activities and feelings you’ll experience while you’re enjoying your new friendships.

You can also name some of the things that are important to you in friendship, like trustworthiness, kindness and respect. Light the candle and imagine the flame bursting forth as energy that will bring a friend your way.

As you watch the flame burn, take the two pieces of ribbon and weave them together. You can simply wind them together. As you do this, visualize yourself bringing that friend closer to you. In a way, you are doing a binding ritual similar to what you’d find in a handfasting ritual. You’re binding a friend to you to make them loyal to you. Keep in mind that you do not want to name a specific. Only bind the idea of a friend to you.

Once you have done this, tie the ribbon to the base of your candle as best as you can. The candle’s light is a beacon to bring friendship to you and another person. When this is done, you may wish to sit and meditate on the spell that you have just cast, sending your energies out to bring that perfect friend to you. Let your candle burn all the way out and release your circle, thanking the Goddess and the God.

The next spell I’d like to share with you is a spell for when there’s a disagreement between you and a friend. It’s less of a ritual and more of a little spell to work that will help smooth the waters between you. For this, you’ll just need a greeting card and some lavender. Simply rub the card with lavender before you send the card, and think about your intentions (forgiveness, happiness, etc). When the receiver gets the card, they’ll experience the emotion that you concentrated on.

If you get into a fight with your friend, this is a good spell to encourage forgiveness and to help them see your side. You need a pink candle (love) and a blue candle (healing). This should be completed on a Friday night. Cast the circle like you normally would and then light both candles in turn. Repeat the following:

Please (name of person), do think again.
May the consequence heal my pain.
Grant my request to me and you’ll see,
The good in your heart set me free.
Bless you.

Snuff out the candles after you cast the spell and consider your work done.

Sometimes, you have an enemy who you’d like to turn into a friend. This is my absolute favorite way to take care of a problem with a person. Instead of fighting about it, I’d rather be friends.

For this spell, you’ll need a picture or drawing of the person causing trouble in your life, as well as vanilla incense. Cast your circle and then light the incense. Hold the picture in your right hand and then pass it through the incense three times. Repeat the following:

Enemy, enemy, turn into a friend.
Let all ill will now come to an end.

Finish your ceremony by placing a flower of your choice over the picture and putting it in a safe place.

This spell is great if you need someone to contact you. It works well if you have lost touch with someone who once was important in your life. It’s not to be used to manipulate anyone (as with all types of spells that involve other people). It’s purpose is to make the path for communication more open.

You need to have a white candle anointed with sandalwood oil before you start your ritual. You’ll also need a picture or drawing of the person in question, as well as some sandalwood incense, and a small glass of salt and a glass of water.

Cast your circle as you normally would and then light the white candle and the incense. Place the picture or drawing on your altar and then put a couple of tablespoons of salt in your right hand. Hold your hand over the glass of water and then allow the salt to fall from your hand into the the glass of water. As you are doing so, repeat “Call me” three times.

Place the glass with the salted water on your altar and say “Get in touch with me.” Generally, you’ll get a call, e-mail or letter from the person by the time the water has evaporated.

Dear Friends,

In this post, I’d like to share with you a few of my favorite wishing spells. Wishing spells are used when you have a wish or desire that you’d like to make come true. I recommend that you use this spell only when you are wishing for something that is really important and vital to you. These aren’t the types of spells that you should use on a casual basis, since the energies that you’ll be working with are temperamental. You can only alter fate so much until your spirit guides tell you enough is enough! Many a newcomer to this path has found that their wish spells have run out of effectiveness when they are used to much. Don’t less this discourage you from using these spells. Just keep in mind that you need to be thankful when they do work for you.

The first spell is very simple and just requires a lucky charm of some sort and a plain white candle. Whatever you use is up to you. Personally, I have a lucky stone that I use for these purposes. You can use a crystal or some other object that you have charged with lucky energy.

Ground and center yourself, cast your circle and then light the white candle. Hold the charm between your palms and kneel before the candle. Repeat the following three times and increase your intensity as you repeat the words:

This simple wish is mine to cast
A magick spell to make it last
I close my eyes, I ask for it
This wish is mine, deliver it

Stay in meditation for a few minutes and hold the charm while concentrating on your wish. After you’re done, find a safe place to let the candle burn out and place the charm in front of the candle.

The following spell requires a sheet of paper or parchment, a pen or a pencil that has been consecrated and a white candle. Before you start, you should do a relaxation ritual to clear your mind from your worries. Think of the spell and the energy you will be releasing.

After you’ve grounded, centered and cast your circle, draw a pentacle on the center of the paper and then draw a yin/yang symbol on top of the pentacle. Write your wish on the top of the sheet of paper. Once you’ve done this, light your white candle and concentrate on your wish.

Fold your sheet three times once you’ve meditated for a while, and then seal it with candle wax. Afterwards, burn the piece of paper in your cauldron and repeat your wish outloud over the ashes. The final step is to sprinkle the ashes outside to release your wish.

The final wishing spell I’d like to share with you needs to performed outside. You’ll need several herbs in their powdered form. Make sure that you have all of these herbs because in the case of this spell, no substitutes will do. You’ll need bay, also known as bay laurel (for success and prestige wishes)
rosemary (for promotion and advanced wishes), cinnamon (for power wishes) and vervain (for general wishes).

Find a quiet spot outside under the waxing or full moon. Mix the herbs together in a small glass jar and start to visualize your wish coming true. Imagine what it will be like to experience your wish in real life. Cast your circle as you normally would and invite the elements and the God and Goddess into your circle. Hold your herbs up to your mouth and breathe out onto the jar. This will force the wish through your body and into the vessel. Once you’ve blessed the herbs, pour about a quarter of them into your palm.

Turn facing North and say:

“God of the north wind, by the powers of earth,
I call you to carry my wish to the northern quarter,
And by the powers of the gnomes, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter of the powdered herb from your palm in the direction of North. Pour another quarter into your hand.

Turn to the East and say:

“God of the East Wind, by the power of air,
I call you to carry my wish to the Eastern quarter,
And by the powers of sylphs, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter of the powdered herb to the East and then pour another quarter into your palm.

Turn to the South and say:

“God of the south wind, by the powers of fire,
I call you to carry my wish to the southern quarter,
and by the powers of Salamanders, I ask that you bring me success.”

Blow a quarter to the south, and pour the remainder of the the herbs into your hand.

Turn to the west and say:

“God of the west wind, By the powers of water, I call you
to carry my wish to the western quarter and by the powers of undines, I
ask that you bring me success.”

Blow the final quarter to the of herb to the west.

Leave the area without looking back and take comfort knowing that the powers of the universe have taken over your wish.

Dear Friends,

Crystals are very important in magickal works and can be used for many different purposes. They can used to channel and store power, they can also be used to heal and add energy to your magickal workings. We’ve already covered how to choose the right crystals for you, but in this post I’d like to draw attention to the practice of clearing and charging crystals to be used.

Since crystals can hold on to energy, you can apply energy to them for specific purposes. For example, you can charge a crystal to give you a financial boost, or for healing purposes. Quartz is a general all around crystal that is good for a blank slate. With quartz you can charge it with whatever purposes that you want. However, there are definitely crystals that are appropriate for specific purposes. If you’d rather use a crystal that is associated with whatever you’re working with, consult a correspondence table.

The first step to the process is to clear the crystals of previous energy that it might be carrying around. The best way to do this is to submerge the crystal in salt water for a period of no less than 7 hours. However, just to be safe you may want to soak the crystal for longer particularly if you’re buying a crystal from a second hand store or a yard sale. You never know what people have used a crystal for in the past. Pay attention to how the crystal “feels” to you and you’ll know when to take it out of the salt water bath.

Once you’ve cleared the crystal with a salt water bath it’s ready to be charged. Charging a crystal is the process of implanting your energy into the crystal. Crystals are a great storehouse for energy and when you charge them with a specific purpose they can help that energy grow and multiply. By using a charged crystal in your circle or in your home, you’ll help attract more of the energy that you’ve added to the crystal.

Before you charge a crystal, you need to decide exactly what you need the crystal to do. Is this going to be a good luck charm? A representation of love in your life? A request for more financial abundance? An all purpose “good energy” charm? You’ll need to make sure you know before you start charging your crystal. While you can add energy of several types to a crystal at once, it’s better especially when you’re first starting to choose one purpose.

Now you’ll need to prepare yourself. When you charge a crystal you are acting as a conduit of energy and will actually be channeling energy from spirit into the crystal. You’ll need to build up this energy and be ready to put it in the crystal. Use any method that you find appropriate. I normally dance around a bit to some drumming or do an intense grounding energy. Building up energy is important because you can feel wiped out after the ceremony if you don’t build it up to begin with.

You can charge your crystals in many different ways. Charging them gives them instructions for their use and helps them assist you with your magickal work. The simplest way to charge a crystal is to write down your intention for the crystal on a piece of paper. Place the paper on top of the crystal so it can absorb the attention and then leave the crystal sitting for a complete day.

You can also charge a crystal by holding it in your dominant hand and then breathing in through your nose. Hold the intention for your crystal in your mind and feel the energy come up through your body and into the crystal as you exhale. Make sure to breath on the crystal as you exhale. Do this six times, once for each side of the crystal. As you are exhaling focus your attention and energy on your purpose.

Finally, you can also use a different type of breathing method called circular breath. With this technique, you hold your intention in your mind and you hold the crystal in front of your mouth and nose. You’ll breath slowly through in through your nose taking the energy in from the crystal and then breathing energy and your intentions into the crystal. Keep your intentions in your mind while you are holding onto the crystal and keep this circular breath up for at least 10 minutes. You can go up to 20 minutes if you can manage it. This mediation will actually allow you to connect with the crystal in ways that you won’t be able to with the other techniques. You should use the circular breath method if you have a very large crystal or want your programming to be very complete.

No matter what method you choose to use in order to program your crystal, make sure to respect that programming and avoid undoing it. While you are holding the crystal, make sure to keep your thoughts and emotions positive. If you hold a crystal while you’re feeling negative, you’re going to need to re-bathe it in salt water and program it all over again.

Dear Friends,

Have you ever heard the phrase “not playing with a full deck?” In some cases, when it comes to tarot cards, it’s best to use the vast majority of your deck for a spread. This type of full deck reading is rare, but it is very powerful. Instead of receiving just three cards in answer to your question, you’ll get 72 different aspects of the situation. You can use full deck spreads to paint a complete picture of your life, to get a “status” quo update of the major influencing factors and a heads up for what’s around the corner.

Since interpreting a full deck tarot spread is a major undertaking, before you start make sure that you have the time to devote to the interpretation. With this, you want to make sure that you cast a circle and shield yourself. It takes a great deal of psychic awareness to divine the true meaning of this amount of cards, so you need to open yourself psychically before you dive in. As you know, it’s important to shield yourself when you are opening your third eye. Burn some protective incense, put a few crystals on your altar or take a ritual bath before you do this.

It goes without saying that this type of spread should only be done when you are looking into an issue that has many levels or is very complicated. This isn’t the spread to use if you want a clear, concise answer to your problem. However, it is a good spread to use if you want to forecast for the general future. I do it once a year on my birthday to forecast for the coming year.

Start your reading by casting a circle and lighting your incense. Orange, sandlewood and hibiscus are good choices. Shuffle the deck until you feel comfortable with it. Don’t try to rush this part of the process. Shuffle as long as you need to because you need to be completely in tune with the order of the card.

Deal from the top of the deck (while the deck is facing down) and then deal out thirteen piles of six cards each. The first pile should be in the center with the others in a circle around the the center, starting with a pile immediately to the left of the center pile, and distributing the cards in a counterclockwise fashion. Each deck should be dealt in a group of six. For example, cards one through six should be in one pile, with cards seven through twelve in the second, and so forth and so on.

The thirteen different piles are representative of the twelve house of the zodiac wheel, as well as a pile for overview (the center pile). Take the first deck of cards that were dealt after the center deck (the one directly to the left) and then spread out the cards in a line. This portion of the deck deals with your first house, which is your personality, your outward appearance and how you approach the world. Card one is representative of the question or problem in this area of your life. Card two is the source of the problem. Card 3 is the factors that have impact on the matter but are effecting it from the outside. Card 4 is the internal factors that are effecting the matter. Card 5 is the outcome of the actions that you are taking.

Card Six is the heart of the matter at hand. It gives you a basic overview of this part of your life and all of the factors that are working for and against you in this area. In some cases, it can be the hidden part of the issue that isn’t seen. It may be something that you are forgetting or are blind to.

The rest of the houses are as follows:

Second house: personal finances, self-esteem
Third house: communication and thoughts
Fourth house: early home life and family
Fifth house: creativity and children
Sixth house: daily work and health
Seventh house: partnerships and marriage
Eight house: shared property and spirituality
Ninth house: travel, philosophy and higher education
Tenth house: career, public persona
Eleventh house: social groups, friends
Twelfth house: secrets and psychology

The houses should be read in order, ending with your thirteenth pile which is an overview of the entire situation.

If you don’t have time to interpret all of the cards at once, make notes of the cards that you drew so you can refer back to them later. When you follow this route and do an interpretation at a later date, make sure to pull back out the cards that you are using so you can look at them. Don’t simply rely on the interpretation offered in a book.

This is an insightful, but labor intensive, spread so make sure to pick an appropriate time and place to complete it. I hope it works as well for you as it has for me.

Brightest Blessings,

Rose Ariadne

Dear Friends,

You may have heard of the Green Man and the Goddess Gaia and assumed that this post has something to do with those earthly deities. In a certain respect it does. However, the main goal of my message to you today is to cause you to take notice of the state of the world around you and how what you do can change the direction we’re headed.

Being eco-friendly and taking steps to preserve the Earth is a hot topic right now and with good reason. The Earth only has so many resources and from a practical point of view, we’re running out of space. However, there’s a spiritual aspect to it as well which I feel that witches are especially attuned to. Working with nature as we do, it’s only natural (pun intended) that ecology and the preservation of the earth are of prime importance to us.

It’s important to remember that the Earth is a living creature and to many, including myself, she is a Goddess. The fact that we have continually taken from Mother Earth again and again as a people without reverence for her bounty is a result of the modern view of life. In ancient times, the people worked with the earth and respected it. There wasn’t as much taking as there was “borrowing” when things were needed.

Modern witches understand this aspect, which modern society is only beginning to do so. In my teachings and my magickal practice, I always make sure to emphasize that when you take from the Earth you do so respectfully. When I tend my garden and pick bunches of sage to use for incense, I ask the bush for its offering and respond with a grateful heart. Contrast this to the modern Judeo-Christian idea that we own the Earth and everything on it.

So how can you magickally work to save the earth? I’m assuming that you are already doing the things that you should be doing that is advised by conventional society. This includes recycling, working toward reducing your ecological footprint, saving energy and trying to use less. There are things that you can do on a spiritual level that can help save the Earth.

The easiest way to make an impact is to spend time in meditation each day sending white light out from your body to the earth. Imagine it coming up out of the earth, through your core and out of your body to cover the earth. Picture thousands of people doing the same and Earth receiving the white, healing light. Visualize the oceans becoming clean, the air clearing of pollutants, plants growing in barren areas….any images that you can call to mind that will heal the Earth will do.

You can also use meditation and ritual to connect with the natural spirits around you. Using a guided visualization, you can transport yourself to areas that need healing and work with the spirits in that area. You can also connect with nature spirits directly in your area. Go outside and meditate. Feel what the Earth really needs and let the spirits know that you are there to help. Once you do this, notice for signs in your intuition for what you should do next.

If there are pagan or other spiritual groups in your area, you can help to organize a group prayer, meditation or ritual in which you all combine your energy to put toward the healing of the Earth. These types of events can be very powerful and motivating. This can even be extended to people in other spiritual paths.

Another way to honor the Earth is to start incorporating the Earth Goddess into your regular rituals. Place a representation of her on your altar and ask her into your circle. By honoring her in this way, you’ll help increase her energy and you’ll be guided toward healing the Earth more and more.

Each time you’re out in nature, say a little prayer to the natural beauty all around you. Pray for the health of the planet and honor the ground you’re standing upon. This is especially important when you’re visiting a place of power, like a shrine, temple, grove or type of stone circle. These placed deserve the utmost honor and respect.

Of course, these actions shouldn’t be done in a vacuum. Make sure your mundane life lines up with your spiritual work with the Earth. Join environmental causes, write your members of Congress to petition them for more Earth-friendly legislation and recycle in your home. These seemingly small steps can make a big difference, especially when you inspire others to follow in your path. Be an example for the pagans around you and you can help heal the Earth together.

Brightest Blessings,

Rose Ariadne
